Youth Support Worker

Wise Disability Support Services

About Us

At Wise Disability Support Services, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, connect, and build a life of independence. We are a dynamic community-based organisation dedicated to providing empowering, high-quality support to young people with disabilities. We are looking for a passionate and driven Youth Worker to join our team and make a lasting, wise impact on the lives of the young people we support.

The Role

As a Youth Worker with Wise Disability Support Services, you will work closely with young people (aged [e.g., 12-25]) with a range of disabilities. Your primary focus will be empowering them to build confidence, discover their passions, and navigate the transition into adulthood.

This role is incredibly rewarding, highly varied, and centered around three core pillars of support:

Community Engagement

  • Facilitate meaningful participation in community events, local clubs, and recreational activities.
  • Assist young people in building and maintaining healthy peer networks and social connections.
  • Act as an advocate to promote social inclusion and accessibility within the local community.

Skill Development

  • Design and implement engaging, person-centred activities that foster emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Support young people in exploring education, vocational training, or employment pathways.
  • Encourage the pursuit of personal hobbies and interests to build self-esteem.

Independent Living Skills

  • Provide hands-on coaching in essential life skills, including budgeting, meal planning, and cooking.
  • Assist with travel training, helping young people navigate public transport safely and confidently.
  • Support the development of personal care routines, time management, and household organisation.

About You

You are patient, creative, and highly adaptable. You do not just see challenges; you see opportunities for growth. You know how to build rapport with young people and are committed to a person-centered, strengths-based approach that aligns with the values of Wise Disability Support Services.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Certificate III or IV in Youth Work, Disability, Community Services, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with young people, particularly those with physical, intellectual, or psychosocial disabilities.
  • Clearances:
    • Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check.
    • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Mobility: A valid driver's license and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • Attributes: Excellent communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion for youth advocacy.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Pay: Generous remuneration aligned with the SCHADS Award.
  • Flexible Hours: Work-life balance with shifts that suit your schedule.
  • Professional Development: Ongoing training in trauma-informed care, positive behavior support, and advanced youth engagement strategies.
  • Supportive Culture: Regular supervision, team check-ins, and a leadership team that values your well-being.
