WIRES are seeking a talented, donor focused Bequests Officer, who is passionate about native animals, to join our team.

ABOUT US

WIRES is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation and has been rescuing and caring for sick, injured and orphaned native animals for over 35 years. WIRES' mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.

WIRES operate a dedicated Wildlife Rescue Office assisting wildlife and the community across Australia 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, providing rescue advice and assistance for over 130,000 animals annually.

WIRES also provides significant national support for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation across Australia, and is proactively collaborating with major partners to support the recovery of wildlife habitat and the long-term preservation of native species in the wild.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Bequests Officer's role, reporting to WIRES Individual Giving Manager, will proactively implement and grow WIRES Bequest Program, maximising engagement with benefactors and working to increase the organisation's long-term capacity to rescue, rehabilitate and preserve wildlife.

You will need to be proactive, positive, flexible, hands on and able to work collaboratively.

This is a 12-month full-time contract with likely extension for the right candidate. Part-time work may also be possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secure, grow and maintain current bequest partnerships
  • Research, identify and cultivate new opportunities and relationships
  • Implement long-term individual follow up plans for benefactors
  • Update and expand the tools, templates and partnership offerings for the Bequest Program
  • Build and grow the organisation's bequest strategy with the aim of increasing bequest income
  • Maintain a 12 month rolling retention/acquisition plan for bequest relationships
  • Respond to all bequest enquiries and send relevant materials
  • Coordinate and deliver all bequest focused campaigns through all mediums, including digital, direct mail & email communications
  • Coordinate and deliver bequest stewardship events as required
  • Oversee all bequest program reporting

ABOUT YOU

  • Minimum 4 years relevant experience
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships, with a strong track record of achieving targets within set timeframes and limited resources
  • Mature personality possessing the communication style and diplomacy to work effectively with existing and potential bequest donors
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire and retain new donor relationships
  • The ability to attend events throughout the year, including weekends, where needed
  • Strong networking skills
  • Initiative and the ability to work proactively in an autonomous role
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Awareness of the importance of data integrity and accuracy & experience working with a range of systems
  • Understanding of the legal and tax provisions, regulation and benefits regarding bequests in Australia
