Women's Health NSW
Women's Health NSW (WHNSW) is the peak body representing the 19 NGO Women's Health Centres (WHCs) and 2 specialist services in NSW. WHNSW is proactive on priority issues relevant to women’s health, advocating for trauma informed models of care and improved health outcomes, policy, practice and legislation so that all women and girls can reach their potential within a gender and culturally safe and healthy environment.
The Bessie Project (Safe Access to Abortion & LARC)
The Supporting Safe Access to Abortion Care Grant is a three-year project that will establish, implement and coordinate statewide programs to ensure socially, economically and geographically disadvantaged women have timely access to community-based low-no cost abortion care (both medical and surgical abortion services) and long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). WHNSW is the Project Lead and will coordinate project partners in the establishment of referral pathways. Project partners include the Women’s Health Centres and services mentioned above and reproductive health and abortion care providers.
Overview of Position
The Project Coordinator is responsible for the establishment/coordination of referral pathways, negotiations to increase service provision and the development of local initiatives, promoting the project within health and community NGOs to facilitate referrals. They will work with the CEO and Manager Capacity Building to assist with capacity building initiatives such as the Community of Practice, development of digital education resources, training opportunities and advocacy work. Resources will include a website, social media tiles and information brochures and factsheets.
Key Accountabilities and Work Performed
- Support the establishment and implementation of low-no cost referral pathways and services for abortion care and LARC
- Work collaboratively with the CEO and Manager Capacity Building to build and maintain strong relationships with member centres, abortion care providers, and NGO stakeholders.
- Promote the referral pathways with health and community NGO’s including in the domestic and family violence, homelessness and tertiary education sectors through networking, and the development and delivery of training resources.
- Support the exploration of barriers to care and potential solutions across NSW including remote locations
- Contribute to the review, updating, and development of WHNSW abortion care and reproductive health community facing and worker resources across digital and print formats, working closely with staff, members, partner organisations and external contractors as needed.
- Support advocacy initiatives to influence policies and secure resources that improve abortion care and LARC access and benefit women’s reproductive health.

- Multiple relationships and interactions are required to achieve the Project outcomes
- Working to the Project time schedule for performance outputs is essential
- Recognition and respectful navigation of sensitive spaces where people may express conscientious objection.
Selection Criteria
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in community health program delivery
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to social/health policy and or learning/development or, equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination and working to meet performance indicators
- Experience developing workforce capacity building resources including coordinating training and information exchange
- Experience in community consultation, engagement and development including the ability to manage, align, and build trust among multiple diverse stakeholder groups with competing priorities to deliver outcomes
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and experience in working with diverse communities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and willingness to travel within NSW
- Commitment to feminist principles, gender equity and trauma informed models of care, including commitment to reproductive justice, bodily autonomy, and the right to choose.
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, and risk management principles.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills (written, verbal and digital)
Desirable
- Experience working in the NGO Women’s Health Sector
- Experience working in health services, community services or not for profit organisations.
- A current driver’s licence and access to vehicle
