Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) is the coordinating body for wildlife health in Australia, and initially began as a national initiative of the Australian Government in 2002. WHA operates a virtual office and offers the flexibility of remote working arrangements.

WHA works with a network of government and private stakeholders across Australia to develop strong partnerships in order to better manage the adverse effects of wildlife diseases on Australia’s animal health industries, human health, biodiversity, trade and tourism. WHA participates in surveillance, investigation, monitoring, research and recording of wildlife disease events. WHA helps protect Australia’s trade, human health, biodiversity and tourism.

WHA is seeking a motivated Senior Project Officer to join our team on a part-time basis (19 hours per week). You will play a crucial role in managing, leading, delivering, and reporting on key WHA projects of a technical and capacity building nature. Additionally, you will contribute to and actively engage in the capacity building and management of Australia's wildlife health preparedness and response system. This role involves liaising, leading discussions, and providing expert advice on specific operational or technical issues for capacity building for wildlife health with government, industry, and community groups.

An ideal candidate will possess the following, specific to the Senior Project Officer role:

Essential Selection Criteria

  • High level knowledge and experience in wildlife health, feral animal disease surveillance and management, and / or wildlife rehabilitation.
  • High level skills in project management and an understanding of complex stakeholder engagement; skills or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people considered an advantage.
  • High level experience in and commitment to accurate record keeping, fact finding, data collection, analysis and interpretation.
  • Understanding of animal disease management including wildlife diseases.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications.
  • Demonstrated general administrative skills, including committee chairperson duties and support.
  • Interest and experience in One Health and/or national and international policy development.
  • Experience in building and maintaining genuine, respectful, inclusive working relationships and collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Licences

  • A degree in an appropriate discipline such as social sciences, conservation, environmental, animal or public health science, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, health promotion or other relevant field
  • A current Australian Drivers’ License.

Salary for this position is $108,749 p/a pro rata (0.5 FTE ~ $54,374) plus 11% superannuation.
