about the shelter

The Sanctuary, a 6 bedroom shelter in the Hills District of Sydney is part of the network of Women’s Community Shelters. We provide short-term crisis accommodation and case management to women and their children who are homeless or leaving domestic violence, supporting and assisting them to start a new life.

about the role

Reporting to the Chair of the Fundraising Committee, the purpose of this role is to lead the fundraising and communication efforts of the shelter.  The role will focus on securing new philanthropic relationships, pursuing new corporate partnerships, and providing exceptional service for existing donors and supporters.

Responsibilities & Key Performance Indicators

Development and execution of the fundraising strategy:

  • Grow the Shelter’s relationships with existing funders, including private, corporate, foundations, government and community partners
  • Identify and develop relationships with new funders, including private, corporate, foundation, government and community partnerships (with a focus on major private donors) 
  • Identify and prepare of grant applications for relevant charitable trusts, foundations and government grants 
  • Manage the Shelter’s major fundraising event, the Gala Ball and develop a second major fundraising event.
  • Support community fundraising events, organised by 3rd parties, for the benefit of the Shelter 
  • Support community advocacy events and speaking opportunities, hosted by 3rd parties, for the benefit of the Shelter, by deploying the Shelter’s volunteers, ambassadors and Board  
  • Manage the Shelter’s annual fundraising campaigns, including the End of Financial Year appeal
  • Oversee the implementation and roll out of a new Customer Relationship Management database

Essential Experience & Core Capabilities

  • Experience working in a similar role and an understand of not-for profit organisations
  • Proven ability to identify, research, develop and maintain new funding relationships.
  • Excellent Project Management skills 
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills 
  • A strong written & verbal communicator
  • Proven track record designing and delivering events
  • Experience using a CRM database, (ideally Salesforce) desirable
