We deliver funded services and programs across the Southern Melbourne Area including the local government areas of Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Casey and Cardinia.

About the Role

The Finance Business Partner is responsible for building financial management capability through a business partnering model, to improve financial sustainability and assist in building financial acumen within the organisation to promote accountability and build financial management capability.

Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Services, this is a role that supports the organisation by managing financial performance, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively, providing financial insights and decision-making support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining effective financial management, ensuring sound business practices and compliance are achieved.
  • Preparation of monthly financial management reports and month end processes, taxation and statutory compliance including year-end and audit
  • Assist with managing the annual budgeting, forecasting and audit processes.
  • Develop and maintain systems to provide up to date and accurate financial information.
  • Oversight of the payroll processes and function.
  • Assist with the preparation of high quality, accurate and timely financial information that facilitates wayss financial targets being met, including financial reporting to relevant key internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Program Managers, and their teams by meeting regularly with budget holders to assess financial performance and to provide financial management information, analysis and advice.
  • Partner with the relevant stakeholders to provide commercial and financial management insights.
  • Provide assistance and expertise in the development of business case proposals.
  • Financial modelling and risk analysis.
  • Monitor grants and prepare grant acquittals as required.
  • Provide effective financial advice to ensure key operational, compliance and financial targets are delivered. Coach others to understand reports and to evaluate risks and opportunities.
  • Lead, manage and develop a small team.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

About You

You have:

  • CA/CPA qualified with tertiary qualifications in commerce/or accounting.
  • Proven track record of achievement in a key finance role where you have lead change and improved business processes, with a focus on budgeting, and management reporting.
  • Astute, outcomes focused finance leader who can provide exemplary financial leadership and skill in a service organisation.
  • Proven experience managing small teams and reporting to boards or sub committees.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and experience communicating with all stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, solid judgment and creative problem solving, negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with good time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic, with a strong client centered service focus and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability of data visualisation and “story telling” techniques to distil complex numbers and findings into meaningful information.
  • The ability to work autonomously, under limited direction and collaboratively in diverse team environments.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and nimble in a changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within the health care or community services sector is desired and experience in the community services or similar industry is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
