Women's and Girls' Emergency Centre

ABOUT US

Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. We work on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation.

Every night, we support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence, and systemic disadvantage. Equally we seek to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence through primary prevention activities with communities and private and public entities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender-based violence in a generation.

THE ROLE

The Tech Safety Educator is responsible for implementing the work and deliverables of WAGEC’s Tech Safety and Prevention pilot project. This involves working with clients and frontline workers to offer advice, training and referrals for further support regarding technology facilitated abuse.

The role works directly with clients to review and implement safety measures concerning their technology. This includes documenting and reporting issues and actions for evidence and includes child protection reporting, as required.

The role also collaborates with workers and external stakeholders to improve understanding and awareness of technology facilitated abuse, undertakes risk assessments, and facilitates referrals for support.

This is a female-identified role, as per Section 126A of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), due to the need to attend refuge sites to meet with clients and staff.

This is full-time, hybrid role for an initial period of 24-months and requiring visits to WAGEC sites as required.

The core responsibilities of this role are:

  • Meet and communicate with clients to review their technology, understand the risks, and work with them to implement safety measures.
  • Work with frontline workers to improve their knowledge of technology-facilitated abuse and offer practical guidance to support their work with clients.
  • Work with the Project Lead to implement, report on, and review the pilot project’s key objectives.
  • Proactively contribute to WAGEC’s overall culture and impact.

ABOUT YOU

  • You are proficient in relevant technical tools, platforms, and software used for digital investigations, such as data analysis software, digital forensics, or cybersecurity tools.
  • You'll have experience working in social service settings such as domestic and family violence, homelessness, or health, and understand the importance of collaboration and care in these environments.
  • Ideally, you’ll have experience working with technology and/or telecommunications sectors, and a strong understanding of how technology is used to facilitate domestic and family violence and abuse.
  • You’re a skilled communicator who can adapt your style to inform clients, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • You can build trust and rapport with individuals facing complex and sensitive issues.
