Very Special Kids house and head office is located at our Malvern site on Glenferrie Road. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Payroll and Finance Officer to join our team. Our newly re-opened state-of-the-art hospice (including hydro-therapy pool) is a world class facility to support the complex needs of the children and young people in our care.

About Very Special Kids:

At Very Special Kids, we believe that all children and young people have the right to a quality of life, no matter how long or short their life may be. We are a highly respected organisation with circa 100 employees and over 600 volunteers who provide essential, free-of-charge, palliative care services for children and young people living with a life-liming condition. Very Special Kids provides specialist services for the whole family, including counselling, peer support, bereavement support and respite or end of life care at Victoria’s only hospice for children and young people.

The Payroll and Finance Officer is responsible for:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly cycle.
  • Responding and liaising with employees regarding wage and salary queries in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring our payroll system is appropriately updated with relevant wage rates and allowances in line with relevant awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Working collaboratively with the team on process improvements to the fortnightly payroll and system upgrades.
  • Maintaining payroll records for existing employees as well as new starters and terminations, including tax calculations.
  • Ensure appropriate auditing procedures are followed.
  • Preparing payroll reporting as well as other ad hoc reports as required.

This is an autonomous role, supported by our General Manager Business & Finance and working closely with our General Manager People & Culture and managers across the business. Working hours are flexible for the right candidate in considering our payroll cycle you would need to be available Monday and Tuesday each fortnight for payroll processing and reporting.
