Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks Inc. (VEV) is a not for profit incorporated association located in the heart of the western suburbs. Our mission is to create opportunities for skills development and excellence, social interaction and enjoyment of the performing arts for everyone within the community.
VEV comprises two long established professionally led choirs. Voiceworks is a community choir of around 60 paid members, and VoiceworksPLUS is a musical theatre program of 26 participants for people with intellectual disabilities who love to sing, act and perform. Voiceworks was established in 2005 and VoiceworksPLUS in 2013. Weekly rehearsals for both choirs are on separate days throughout the school terms in our home base at the Shenton Park Community Centre where we also perform shows.
We are seeking a qualified volunteer to fill the vacancy of Treasurer which is temporarily being filled by a Board member. We are a hands-on Board that takes pride in combining strong governance practice with a collaborative and fun approach to producing our shows. The Board currently comprises six volunteers from diverse walks of life who are familiar with all aspects of the organisation, aside from our love of singing and performing. We also have a volunteer Board of Trustees with oversight of the Public Fund.
We take pride in managing our financial systems efficiently through established processes. We use Xero accounting software and we pay an external professional bookkeeper who works closely with the Treasurer.
You will be responsible for; developing the annual group budget as well as budgets for shows for each of the choirs; timely processing of invoices and payments; producing monthly reports; producing end of year financial statements and submitting these to the regulatory authority.
Your time commitment would be for just a few hours a week. You will also be required to attend the monthly Board Meeting every second Monday of the month. We run efficient meetings with the finances included in the Agenda.
Our financial year runs from Jan-Dec and you will be required to attend the AGM.
Ideally at a minimum you have accounting skills and are familiar with producing budgets and preparing monthly reports such as the Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, and cash flow.
If you have prior experience in working in a not for profit environment that would also be great but is not essential.
If you have prior experience in the performing arts sector that would be awesome too.
You will be joining a cohesive and efficient team with complementary skills so you will be a team player and a good communicator.
The Board members work from home, so the hours are flexible to suit you. We use online platforms for Board and choir communications and for document management.
We offer a VEV membership as Board members need to be a member and have voting rights.
Singing is contagious but you don't have to be able to sing to perform in the Treasurer role. However don't be surprised if you get swept into the vibe! To see more about us visit: https://www.voiceworks.org.au/
