VMIAC is seeking a staff member to facilitate psycho social disability consumers to make submissions to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
This exciting and innovative role will identify, communicate with and support consumers to prepare their own submissions to the Commission to ensure that the consumer voice is heard. It will require developing relationships with organisations across the state to work collaboratively with those consumers who are hard to reach; it will require travel and innovation in communication.
The role will have a focus on engaging people with a psycho social disability in rural and regional communities and facilitate opportunities for them to participate in the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability through individual and community advocacy. To assist consumers with mental health and other disabilities to prepare personal submissions to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability and to ensure that consumers are given a range of options to have their voices heard by the Royal Commission.
THIS IS A LIVED EXPERIENCE CONSUMER POSITION.
Applicants must have lived experience of mental health issues or emotional distress and of being a consumer of mental health services, as well as an understanding of the consumer movement and its underlying principles. Applicants must consider themselves to be work ready.
