Vision Australia is a leading national provider of blindness and low vision services in Australia.

Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is a national organisation that established its first school for training dog guides in Victoria, on the 10th April 1960.

As an instructor, you will gain experience across our breeding program, puppies and international instructor team.

Vision Australia exists to support people who are blind or have low vision to live the life they choose. Vision Australia provides services to more than 25,500 people clients from 35 Vision Australia centres in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia; and through outreach programs in the Northern Territory and Tasmania

An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced Guide Dog Mobility Instructor to join our team in Kensington, operating from our flagship mobility centre.

Responsibilities

As an Seeing Eye Dog Instructor at Vision Australia you will:

• Train clients in the use and care of Seeing Eye Dogs as a mobility aid
• Assess clients and dogs
• Train dogs up to matching standards
• Provide ongoing support and education/training of Dog Guide teams
• Train, coach and support Trainees

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Qualified as an Instructor with a school recognised by the International Guide Dog Federation
• Substantial post graduate experience as an Instructor
• Ability to meet the physical demands and requirements of this role including the ability to independently undertake long walks on a daily basis
• Excellent dog handling skills
• Excellent client management skills
