VCOSS acts as the auspice body for the Disability Advocacy Resource Unit (DARU).
About DARU
DARU is a resource unit dedicated to working with disability advocacy organisations to promote and protect the rights of people with disability. DARU develops and distributes resources and provides training opportunities to keep disability advocates informed and up to date about issues affecting people with disability in Victoria. DARU operates under an MOU between VCOSS and Disability Advocacy Victoria.
The Resource Development Lead will work closely with the DARU Manager to develop and implement online training programs, content and resources, targeted to support and enable the learning and development of Victorian disability advocates and the broader disability advocacy sector. The Resource Development Lead will explore and deliver new ways to resource the disability advocacy sector through professional development, networking events and other opportunities.

- Term: 2-year fixed term
- Salary: FTE $99,700 - $112,864
- Reports to: DARU Manager
- Located: L8, 128 Exhibition St, Melbourne 3000 (VCOSS staff are currently working to a hybrid home-office model.)
KEY TASKS
Working within VCOSS’ operational settings and under guidance from DAV and VCOSS as required:
- Design, develop and implement comprehensive training and learning programs (both online and in person) targeted to DARU and external stakeholder priorities and needs. The includes, but is not limited to:
- Overseeing the end-to-end process of training module development and delivery including development, creation and implementation, and participation analysis.
- Liaising and working with contractors to coordinate the research, online learning content, audio visual content and other outsourced tasks that provide the foundations of the online training programs and other resources as required.
- Translating written content into interactive online learning modules and building online learning components into the WordPress Sensei plugin and other programs as applicable.
- Ensuring training and learning content align with current sector standards, legislative requirements and best practices.
- Scoping new project and partnership opportunities based on sector priorities and need.
- Maintain and update existing training materials and online training library currently including modules such as:
- disability advocacy induction training,
- disability advocacy best practice training, and
- disability inclusion training.
- Evaluate effectiveness of training outputs and learning programs through feedback, assessments and performance metrics, and identify opportunities for improvements to ensure DARU maintains a high-quality training program. This should include the exploration of new training and resource package models, designing and building an evaluation of these programs, and potential fee-for service opportunities.
- Collaborate with sector experts, people with disability and disability advocacy organisations to gather insights, ensuring training and resource content remains relevant and responsive.
- Support the DARU Manager to develop and execute a digital content strategy that includes the creation of engaging online material such as website maintenance, videos, blogs, social media posts and training programs to raise awareness about disability advocacy issues.
- Represent the organisation at sector and community networking events to share knowledge and gather feedback. This includes the coordination, organisation and delivery of DARU and VCOSS events.
- General DARU Administration coordination and other duties as required.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering accessible and engaging learning resources using a multifaceted approach, tailored to the diverse needs of people with disability.
- Relevant experience in community sector services, an understanding of disability issues and the human rights model of disability, and ability to align training content and learning outcomes with the needs of the community.
- Excellent organisational skills, with flexibility to prioritise a range of competing demands and work to deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of adult learning principles and experience applying these to develop training and resources that are relevant, empowering and outcomes-focused.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to design and implement inclusive e-learning content and other training material (e.g. video, interactive, text-based content) to a diverse audience ensuring information is clear, accurate and engaging.
- High level technical abilities in online learning systems and/or website development, including experience in WordPress and Sensei plugins (or similar software), and knowledge and understanding of accessibility requirements in web content and other online platforms (including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1).
- Knowledge and a commitment to the objectives and values of VCOSS (as auspice body for DARU and employer of DARU staff) and capacity to represent VCOSS and/or DARU views as required.
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent.
