About you

Due to the Institute’s recent growth in our Operations Team, we are looking for a People & Culture professional who brings a depth of experience from a broad People & Culture operations role. Your experience encompasses the full employment lifecycle, including learning and development as well as experience advising on Australian employment law and expertise in HR system administration.

Beyond technical skills, we are seeking someone with a supportive and collaborative approach and excellent interpersonal abilities who will work as a trusted advisor and mentor to their direct reports and colleagues at all levels.

The role

The People & Culture (P&C) Manager is responsible for the operational aspect of the Institute’s People & Culture function. They will be overseeing the end-to-end employee life cycle processes, including onboarding, offboarding, talent management, performance management, and employee relations.

They will collaborate with key stakeholders, and mentor and develop the P&C Advisor and Talent Acquisition Partner, to ensure seamless operations and compliance. Additionally, they will manage our learning and development platform and utilise HR metrics for continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end employee life cycle processes including onboarding, offboarding, talent management, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Utilise HR metrics, analytics, and reporting to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Ownership of HR Information System.
  • Oversee recruitment and selection processes, manage learning & development, and maintain website content.
  • Providing quality advice and coaching support to direct team and internal stakeholders on P&C matters including:
  • Employment law
  • Employee relations/performance
  • Collaborating with medical research institute HR network.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and develop the People & Culture team.
  • Foster cooperation, motivation, and rapport within the team.
  • Create a supportive work environment and provide constructive feedback.
  • Manage expenses in line with the budget.

Does this sound like you?

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or related field.
  • Proven track record as a P&C/HR manager or team leader.
  • Experience managing teams or supervising and mentoring team members.
  • Experience managing HR Information Systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian employment legislation.
  • Experience advising on and managing employee relations issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating learning and development activities.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Full proficiency in desktop applications (Microsoft Suite).
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

Desirable:

  • Experience in business management, budgeting, planning, and reporting.
  • Industrial relations knowledge
