This is an exciting opportunity to build strong community connections, amplify the voices of Aboriginal young people, and create opportunities for them to influence decisions that affect their lives.

If you're passionate about youth leadership, community engagement, culture, and self-determination, we'd love to hear from you.

About Koorie Youth Council (KYC)

The Koorie Youth Council (KYC) is the representative organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people living in Victoria.

Our vision is for Koorie Youth to collectively create their futures so that all young people feel safe, seen and heard.

We work alongside Aboriginal young people to strengthen leadership, influence policy, advocate for change, and create opportunities for young people to connect, learn and lead. Through statewide initiatives and events such as the Koorie Youth Summit, we ensure the voices, experiences and aspirations of Aboriginal young people are at the centre of decisions that affect them.

About the Role

As the Youth Engagement Lead, you'll work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people across the Barwon South-West region to create opportunities for their voices, ideas and experiences to influence policy, programs and community outcomes.

You'll build strong partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), facilitate engaging workshops and youth participation activities, and coordinate regional events that strengthen leadership, cultural connection and community engagement.

Working closely with the Programs Manager and the wider Koorie Youth Council team, you'll play a key role in ensuring Aboriginal young people are heard, respected and empowered to shape decisions that affect their lives.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, community groups and stakeholders across the Barwon South-West region.
  • Engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people through culturally safe consultation, workshops and community activities.
  • Design and facilitate workshops that build confidence, leadership skills, resilience, cultural connection and problem-solving abilities.
  • Coordinate youth-led regional events, including initiatives such as Koorie Connections Day.
  • Support local capacity-building initiatives that strengthen community engagement with Aboriginal young people.
  • Collaborate with KYC's Programs, Policy and Communications teams to ensure consistent engagement across the organisation.
  • Contribute to reporting, planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Travel throughout the region, and occasionally interstate, as required.

You're someone who enjoys working alongside Aboriginal young people and is passionate about creating opportunities for their voices to influence change.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • A strong understanding of Victorian Aboriginal communities and the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

  • Knowledge of youth participation and co-design principles.
  • Experience planning and facilitating workshops, forums or community engagement activities.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • A willingness to regularly travel throughout the Barwon South-West region.

Mandatory Requirements

You will need:

  • Current Employee Working with Children Check
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence
  • National Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Full Australian working rights

Why Join KYC?

At KYC, you'll join a passionate team committed to supporting Aboriginal young people to lead, influence and create positive change within their communities.

We offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements, including remote work options
