Overview

The Natural Disaster Relief Program Coordinator will liaise with local ACCO’s and Aboriginal groups on how we can either complement services they are providing regarding COVID-19 or provide additional assistance in a community where there is limited assistance available such as food packages, relief vouchers, cleaning and hygiene items. This can be through brokerage directly to community, providing funds to community groups to enhance their supports, coordinate legal assistance with a designated civil lawyer from VALS.

Key Performance Indicators, Duties & Responsibility

  1. Liaise with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Traditional Owner Group and any local Aboriginal support services across Victoria.
  2. Ability to prioritise needs of community members and ensure that needs of specific communities are being met within a timely manner.
  3. Ensure resources are fairly distributed across the various Aboriginal communities within Victoria to ensure fair access to supports.
  4. Coordinate emergency relief purchases, boxing of packages and delivery of packages to the various communities across Victoria through utilising local services and VALS Regional Client Service Officers.
  5. Coordinate ways to provide community education across Victoria to assist our Civil lawyer in being able to discuss and address legal needs of the community related to COVID-19 and bushfires.
  6. Development of program guidelines, processes and related documents to ensure clean procedure in how community can seek assistance.
  7. Complete reporting requirements as directed.
  8. Develop and maintain database and spreadsheets for client and community information.
  9. As directed, undertake other duties which are incidental and peripheral to the main tasks, provided that such duties are reasonably within the employee’s skills, competence and training.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and acknowledge their diverse backgrounds, personalities and varying needs and the unique cultural ways in which they may be expressed
  2. Demonstrate experience in project management.
  3. Ability to liaise with stakeholders.
  4. Experience in developing and implement new program structures and processes.
  5. Work in a fast-paced environment and able to adapt to changing needs
  6. Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and seek assistance where required.
  7. Ability to work both autonomously and part of a team.
  8. Demonstrated computer literacy skills and proficiency using the Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  9. Experience working in the non-profit sector.
