Upbeat Arts is seeking a Program Leader to coordinate and lead our established choir on the Sunshine Coast, based in Buderim. This is a wonderful opportunity to step into a program with strong foundations, a dedicated team and a genuine community of members who have built something special together. 

  

As Program Leader, you will play an important role in sustaining and building on what has already been created, a warm and inclusive space where members connect, create and belong through music. WHO IS UPBEAT ARTS? 

Upbeat Arts is a Queensland based charity and accredited mental health provider, funded by Queensland Health to deliver recovery oriented programs for adults living with mental illness. We create welcoming spaces where people can connect through music and creative expression, and feel less alone. Our programs make a real and measurable difference in the lives of our members. 

Through our choirs and creative writing programs, led by professional artists, members are supported to build genuine connections, confidence, routine and a sense of purpose and belonging. We believe these are essential ingredients for wellbeing and mental health recovery. 

Since launching our first choir in Brisbane in 2014, Upbeat Arts has continued to grow and currently includes choirs across South East Queensland, including Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and Bundaberg.

OUR PURPOSE 

Our purpose is to improve health and wellbeing outcomes through creative arts programs. We walk alongside our members as they build social connections and grow their life skills. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Sunshine Coast choir is based in Buderim and has been running for two and a half years, growing into a thriving, well-loved program with a strong volunteer team, an experienced Conductor and Accompanist, and a loyal and engaged membership. This is a program with real momentum. 

As Program Leader, you will take on the coordination and leadership of this established choir, sustaining its foundations while continuing to build on its success. 

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines community engagement, relationship building, program coordination, communications, administration and leadership. You will work closely with our Conductor, Accompanist, volunteers, members, venue partners and the broader Upbeat Arts team to make sure the choir continues to thrive. Responsibilities include: 

• Member support, communications and engagement 
• Ongoing recruitment and onboarding of members and volunteers 
• Venue coordination and liaison 
• Community networking and relationship building, including engaging with local Queensland Health and non government community mental health services to sustain and strengthen referral pathways into the program 
• Volunteer coordination and support 
• Rostering and administration tasks 
• Supporting a welcoming, inclusive and respectful choir environment 
• Day to day problem solving and program coordination 

You will be supported by an experienced and collaborative broader team, a dedicated local volunteer team, and a well established choir model that has run successfully across Queensland for more than a decade. 

This is a part-time position with flexible work arrangements. The choir rehearses in Buderim on Thursday mornings, and you will need to be available from approximately 9am to 1pm each Thursday. Other work can be done from home, or the local coffee shop, around your weekly rehearsal and any meetings or community activities. 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING 

We are looking for someone who is kind, warm and caring, resourceful, organised and proactive, with a genuine commitment to community wellbeing and inclusion. 

Relevant qualifications are welcome but not essential. 

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate: 

• Experience working with diverse communities, including people living with mental illness or experiencing social isolation 
• A strong sense of initiative, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of tasks and outcomes 
• Strong leadership, coordination or community development experience 
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
• The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people 
• Strong organisational and administrative skills 
• The ability to work independently while contributing well within a team 
• Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive and Teams 

Experience within the mental health, community services, arts or not for profit sectors will be highly regarded.
