About the opportunity 

The Therapeutic Practitioner provides therapeutic casework services using the Functional Family Therapy - Child Welfare (FFT-CW) model, to families referred by Family and Community Services (FACS) where there is physical abuse and neglect of a child aged 0-17 years.

As well as providing direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with FFT-CW principles and practices, you will:

  • Provide support and structure for the safety of children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with Uniting policies and the Mandatory Reporting Guidelines, where the safety of the child or young person is at immediate risk
  • Deliver the service in a culturally inclusive framework for Aboriginal and culturally diverse families with respect and attention to the additional complexities within the child protection system
  • Contribute positively to the development of collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders
  • Be available to work flexibly with families and at times outside of the normal business hours and in locations that are most suitable to their needs

About You

  • Degree in Social Work or Psychology, or a related Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and the ability to identify and address these issues with families when required
  • Knowledge and application of cognitive and other behavioural therapies
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct family assessments using a strengths-based approach
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationship with families, peers and other stakeholders
  • A demonstrated passion for social change and contributing to an organisation of influence for the most disadvantaged
