At Uniting, we’re here to make a real difference. We exist to inspire people, enliven communities, and confront injustice—and that extends to how we use technology to support the communities we serve.
We’re looking for a Software Asset Manager to take ownership of our software asset ecosystem, bringing rigour, insight, and commercial acumen to how we manage, optimise, and govern software across the organisation.
This is a critical role where your work will directly reduce risk, strengthen vendor accountability, and unlock meaningful cost savings—while enabling our teams to deliver better outcomes for the people who rely on us.
About the Role
As our Software Asset Manager, you’ll lead the end-to-end management of software assets across Uniting. From procurement through to retirement, you’ll ensure compliance, optimise licensing, and align with financial, procurement, and security frameworks.
You’ll sit within the Portfolio and Vendor Management team in IT, working closely with stakeholders across the organisation and with key external vendors.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Software Asset Lifecycle Management
- Build and maintain a comprehensive software asset register across on-premise, cloud, and SaaS environments
- Manage the full lifecycle: request, procurement, deployment, usage, renewal, and retirement
- Ensure accurate tracking of entitlements, usage, and compliance
Licence Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with software licence agreements and vendor terms
- Lead and support vendor audits (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, SAP)
- Identify and remediate compliance risks
- Partner with Cyber Security to align software compliance with security posture
Cost Optimisation & Financial Governance
- Identify opportunities for licence optimisation, consolidation, and rationalisation
- Deliver measurable cost savings through proactive licence management
- Support Finance with forecasting, cost allocation, and reporting inputs
- Provide clear reporting on software spend, utilisation, and savings
Vendor & Contract Management
- Ensure all software procurement aligns with standards and policies
- Interpret contracts, licence metrics, and renewal terms
- Support commercial negotiations with data-driven insights
- Ensure appropriate approvals, contracts, and purchase orders are in place
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with IT, Finance, Procurement, Security, and business teams
- Advise project teams on licensing implications during design and delivery
- Build awareness of SAM principles and compliance responsibilities
Tools, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Own and uplift SAM tools and processes (e.g., ServiceNow SAM, Snow, Flexera)
- Develop dashboards and reporting for executive and audit purposes
- Contribute to policies, standards, and governance frameworks
- Drive maturity in line with ITIL and ISO 19770
About You
You’re a commercially minded SAM professional who knows how to balance compliance, cost, and stakeholder needs. You’re equally comfortable in the detail and influencing at a senior level.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience (5+ years) in Software Asset Management within a medium-to-large enterprise
- Strong understanding of licensing models (Microsoft, SaaS, cloud, subscription)
- Experience managing vendor audits and compliance activities
- Advanced analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex licensing data
- Confidence working across procurement, finance and governance frameworks
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, Accounting or Commerce
- Software Asset Management certification
- ITIL v3 or v4 certification
Highly regarded:
- Experience in healthcare, government or regulated environments
- Familiarity with SAM tools such as ServiceNow, Snow or Flexera
- Knowledge of ISO 19770 or similar frameworks
