Role Purpose:

As a Social Impact Communications Specialist within Uniting's Social Impact & Advocacy Directorate, your primary responsibility will be to amplify Uniting’s ideas, expertise, and evidence to influence decision-makers, aiming to disrupt entrenched disadvantage. You will collaborate with subject matter experts across the organisation, including the Media, Government Relations, Advocacy, Social Innovation, Research, and Social Policy teams, to drive and grow our thought leadership capability. By strategically sharing Uniting’s good practices, research, and innovations, you will contribute to driving systemic change across various sectors and industries while enhancing our reputation for practice excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Research and Social Policy, Social Innovation, and Communities and Seniors Directorates to identify materials worthy of sharing and ensure effective dissemination to desired audiences.
  • Identify, package, and promote Uniting’s work with external stakeholders through appropriate channels such as sector events, awards, and conferences.
  • Coordinate communications across teams and prepare communication materials as required.
  • Build the capacity of other personnel within Uniting to effectively package and promote their work to external audiences.
  • Identify thought leadership opportunities aligned with the organisation’s 10-Year Strategy and aspirations for influencing systems and sectors through research and innovation projects.
  • Support the creation, production, and promotion of flagship research reports for Uniting.
  • Capture, assess, and report on our thought leadership capability and achievements over time, tracking the reach and impact of our work.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification preferably in communications and/or media with subsequent relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience engaging stakeholders across the not-for-profit sector, philanthropy, social researchers, and Government.
  • Substantial knowledge/experience in social justice, media, advocacy, events coordination, and communications writing and editorial.
  • Proven ability to design and implement communications campaigns to share research and thought leadership materials.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to design and coordinate sector events, both in person and virtually.
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
