About the Opportunity

This is a full-time fixed term opportunity working 35 hours/ week until June 2023 (with likely extension), and will located at Newpin Port Kembla

As a Play worker your role will be to provide supported play with children as well as with children and their parents.  Supporting our Play Facilitator, you will provide therapeutic play opportunities and educational programs, while supporting and role modelling for parents and children at our purpose-built family playroom.

This role requires a motivated, sensitive, and nurturing professional who is passionate to work collaboratively within our team and to develop safe relationships that supports children and their parents. The children attending our program will have likely experienced trauma and be living outside their family. Experience working with children that have experienced trauma is desirable but not essential.

Who are we?

The Newpin - New Parent and InfantNetwork program specialises in the development of emotional maturity and well-being of parents who have children placed in Out of Home Care due to child protection concerns. Newpin promotes the skills that parents need to manage practical as well as emotional challenges in the parenting of their child/ren; as well as increasing the elements of safety within the family. 

 What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Children’s Services, with experience working with children from birth to 5 years
  • Must hold a current WWCC 
  • Knowledge of child protection and mandatory reporting
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children (0-6) who may be displaying challenging behaviours (essential) 
  • Experience working with older school aged children (desirable) 
  • Some experience and/or training in using play as a therapeutic and educational tool with children is preferred, with a passion to build your skills in this area. 
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, families and community members
  • Experience of working with diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse families.
  • Believe in positive team spirit and embrace working in a diverse team
