Role Overview:

The Consultant Psychologist role holds a key leadership position across the cluster. The incumbent is responsible for the provision of clinical guidance, training and supervision of clinicians, specialising in psychotherapeutic early intervention mental health treatment to young people.

The Consultant Psychologist will work collaboratively with a range of Mental Health Clinicians across the service to promote comprehensive evidence-based psychological care that is youth friendly, safe, effective, and of a high standard. The Consultant Psychologist may be required to contribute to clinical review and quality assurance processes, clinical supervision of staff, professional development meetings, developing effective interfaces across programs within the service, as well as facilitating relevant research activities.

Essential Criteria:

  • This position is a designated Senior Psychologist position with experience within the mental health field in acute and community settings, ideally with early psychosis and first episode psychosis young people and their families.
  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
  • Demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise consistent with a role in a comprehensive Mental Health Service.
  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge and experience in all aspects of psychology
  • Substantial experience and demonstrated skill in crisis intervention and management of young people in the acute phase of a mental illness.
  • Substantial knowledge of the evidence base for the biopsychosocial treatments of first episode psychosis.
  • Specific knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of young people and the impact that a first episode of psychosis has on development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current relevant State and Commonwealth Government policies and agendas in youth mental health care delivery and in the broader community context.
