headspace Mount Druitt is part of Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention services to young people aged 12–25. Our multidisciplinary team delivers support across mental health, physical health (including sexual health), alcohol and other drugs, and work and study.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Community Development Officer to join the headspace team in Mount Druitt, supporting young people aged 12-25 with mild to moderate mental health needs. This role will allow you to build strong relationships with local schools, youth organisations, and councils while creating engaging spaces and programs for young people.

 Key responsibilities include

  • Facilitating social spaces, such as running breakfast clubs, art, and music activities for young people.
  • Engaging with local schools and community groups to promote headspace services.
  • Leading and managing group activities and events in schools and community settings.
  • Promoting headspace services, driving referrals from various sources such as schools, GPs, and self-referrals.
  • Participating in team meetings, sharing insights from community engagement, and reporting on community trends.
  • Supporting young people during community events and increasing awareness of mental health services

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in facilitating Community Development initiatives, with sound knowledge of mental health.
  • Passionate about supporting young people and improving mental health outcomes in the community.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, youth organisations, and health professionals.
  • Knowledge of the local area and community connections is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate community events, including setting up and transporting promotional materials (mileage reimbursed).

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to the field of work, such as health promotion, social work, psychology, or community development/engagement.
  • A current Australian driver’s licence is required.
