At United Way Australia, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their postcode.
For more than 60 years, we've worked alongside communities, governments, businesses and local organisations to create better futures for children and young people. Today, we're leading impactful initiatives across early childhood development, literacy and place-based community change – including our flagship programs, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and The Hive.
As part of the world's largest privately funded non-government organisation, United Way Australia combines global expertise with local action to create lasting change in communities across Australia.
We're looking for a strategic communicator, storyteller and trusted advisor to help shape how Australia sees United Way.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll lead our communications function, helping more Australians understand who we are, why our work matters and the impact we're creating in communities across the country.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced communications professional who wants to do meaningful, strategic work without the demands of a full-time executive role. You'll have the autonomy to influence organisational direction, work closely with senior leaders and drive communications that support fundraising, partnerships, advocacy and community impact.
We're looking for the right person, not a rigid set of hours.
This role is offered on a part-time basis (0.6–0.8 FTE), with flexibility around how those hours are worked. We are open to arrangements that suit experienced professionals seeking balance alongside other commitments.
Whether you prefer shorter days across the week, school-hour arrangements, or a more traditional part-time structure, we're happy to discuss what works best.
You'll be the architect of United Way Australia's voice, profile and engagement strategy.
Working closely with our CEO and leadership team, you'll:
This is a hands-on strategic role where you'll be equally comfortable developing a communications strategy, advising senior leaders, crafting key messaging, writing compelling content and identifying opportunities to elevate United Way's profile and impact.
You're an experienced communications professional who combines strategic thinking with exceptional writing and storytelling skills.
You know how to distil complex ideas into clear, compelling messages and understand how communications can strengthen stakeholder engagement, build awareness and help organisations achieve their goals.
You'll likely bring:
Experience in the not-for-profit, philanthropy, government, corporate or social impact sectors will be highly regarded.
At United Way Australia, you'll join a passionate team committed to creating better outcomes for children, families and communities.
In return, we offer:
Sydney (Hybrid)
Commensurate with experience, plus superannuation and access to generous not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
