• This is a part-time position based in Perth CBD with WFH allowances.
• This role is available until January 2027 with potential extension to June 2028.
• Salary range of $89,136- 106,169 depending on experience, plus 13% superannuation.
• Generous conditions are applicable in accordance with the Unions WA Enterprise Agreement 2025.

About the role

The Workplace Rights Specialist strengthens migrant workers’ access to accurate workplace-rights information, industrial relations support and specialist referral pathways across Western Australia.

Working across the Multicultural Workers Collective’s community and union-engagement functions, the position provides specialist guidance, coordinates referrals and supports effective responses to workplace issues affecting migrant workers.

The role works closely with unions, legal service providers and community partners, including the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre, and supports initiatives relating to the Workplace Justice Visa and Strengthening Reporting Protections pilots.

Responsibilities of the role

• Provide accessible workplace-rights and industrial relations information to migrant workers and their communities.
• Coordinate referrals to unions, legal services and other specialist providers.
• Support workers to navigate workplace-rights processes and appropriate service pathways.
• Build effective relationships with unions, legal providers, community organisations and project partners.
• Deliver and support workplace-rights education, outreach and information sessions.
• Support awareness of the Workplace Justice Visa and Strengthening Reporting Protections pilots.
• Identify emerging and systemic workplace issues affecting migrant workers.
• Gather evidence, worker experiences and case studies to support reporting, policy development and advocacy.
• Contribute specialist workplace-rights expertise to organisational resources, briefings and stakeholder engagement.
• Maintain accurate, confidential and secure records of enquiries, referrals and outcomes.
• Undertake other duties consistent with the position.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Demonstrated experience in workplace rights, industrial relations, community legal services or a related field.
• Sound knowledge of Australian workplace-rights frameworks and referral pathways and migration related workers’ rights
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and case-management capabilities.
• Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly to workers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with unions, legal providers and community organisations.
• Current Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Demonstrated commitment to unionism, worker rights, equality and social justice.

Desirable

• Experience supporting migrant workers, temporary visa holders or multicultural communities.
• Experience working within the union movement, industrial relations system or community legal sector.
• Knowledge of migration-related workplace protections, including the Workplace Justice Visa and Strengthening Reporting Protections pilots.
• Experience coordinating workplace-rights or legal referrals.
• Experience delivering education or information sessions.
• Ability to communicate in a language other than English.
