• This is a full-time role based in the Perth CBD with regular travel to the South West and regional WA.
• The role is available until July 2027, with a salary range of $111,000 - $121,628 depending on experience, plus 13% superannuation.
• Generous conditions are applicable, in accordance with the UnionsWA Enterprise Agreement 2025. 

About the role

The Green Industry Officer will drive advocacy and campaigning efforts to support the growth of green industries across Western Australia’s South West. Working closely with affiliated unions and allied organisations, the Officer will organise, mobilise and advocate for the timely delivery of renewable energy, green manufacturing and export industry projects in the region.

The role will help ensure the transition to a low-carbon economy creates secure, high-quality union jobs, supports affected workers and communities, and delivers a fair and just transition from carbon-intensive industries. The Officer will play a key role in building support for green industry development, strengthening collaboration across stakeholders, and ensuring working people have a strong voice in shaping the region's economic future.

The position will be based in UnionsWA's Perth office and will undertake regular travel to the South West.

Responsibilities of the position

Work with the UnionsWA Secretary and the ACTU Green Industry Project Officer to develop and implement strategies that accelerate green industry development and support union growth across emerging industries in Western Australia.

• Build and maintain productive relationships with unions, community organisations, industry representatives, Traditional Owners and government stakeholders.
• Coordinate and support campaigns that advance investment in renewable energy, green manufacturing and related industries.
• Develop compelling campaign materials, communications and advocacy content for a range of audiences and platforms.
• Organise and mobilise union members, workplace leaders and community supporters to participate in campaign activities.
• Advocate for policies and investments that support green industry development and the creation of secure, high-quality jobs.
• Monitor relevant policy, industry and political developments and provide strategic advice to support campaign objectives.
• Represent UnionsWA at meetings, forums, public events and stakeholder consultations.
• Undertake regular travel to the South West and other regional areas as required.
• Other duties as directed.

Selection criteria

Essential:

• Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and delivery of effective campaign, organising and advocacy strategies.
• Ability to develop and implement operational plans that achieve strategic objectives.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
• Strong understanding of unions, industrial relations, renewable energy, green industry development or related fields.
• Sound understanding of the Western Australian political and policy environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
• Demonstrated ability to organise, motivate and mobilise people around shared goals.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing campaign, advocacy or public-facing materials.
• Current unrestricted driver’s license.
• Commitment to the principles and values of trade unionism and social justice.

Desirable:

• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience relevant to industrial relations, politics and public policy and/ or green industry.
• Experience working in a trade union, advocacy, campaigning, community organising or public policy environment.
