We are seeking an energetic and relationship-focused Workplace Organiser to recruit and support participating workplaces across Tasmania to the next stage of the Gender Equity Works project.

Funded through the Australian Government's ‘Advancing Gender Equality in Gender Segregated Industries’ program, this exciting statewide initiative works with unions, employers and workers to improve workplace flexibility, inclusion, safety, dignity and opportunities for women in a range of industries.

The Workplace Organiser will be responsible for engaging workplaces across Tasmania, supporting project delivery, facilitating workplace participation, and helping employers and workers identify practical actions that improve gender equity, workplace inclusion, flexibility, safety and dignity.

You will be the primary point of contact for participating workplaces and will help build a statewide network of organisations committed to gender equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, workers, unions and industry stakeholders
  • Present project information sessions and briefings
  • Support workplaces to undertake gender equity assessments and action planning
  • Coordinate workplace participation in training, workshops and forums
  • Assist workplaces to implement practical initiatives that improve workplace culture and inclusion
  • Monitor workplace progress and identify opportunities for further support
  • Support the establishment and growth of the Tasmania Women in Trades and Industry Network

You will have:

  • A commitment to union values and a passion for worker’s rights
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience coordinating projects, programs or engagement activities
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to gender equity, inclusion and social justice
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout Tasmania

We are looking for someone who can build trust, engage people from diverse backgrounds and work confidently across different industries and workplace settings. This may suit you if you have experience such as:

  • Union organising
  • Community development
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Not-for-profit or other progressive member-based organisation
  • Workforce development
  • Training and education
  • Male-dominated industries such as construction, manufacturing, transport, energy or trades
  • Facilitating group discussions, workshops or consultation processes

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Uncapped personal leave
  • 17% employer superannuation contributions

To be eligible for this role, applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Unions Tasmania values diversity, equity and inclusion, and we are committed to building a team that reflects the communities and workplaces we work with. We welcome applications from people with a broad range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
