Unions NSW is the peak council of trade unions in NSW representing over 600,000 members and 60 affiliated unions and trades and labour councils.

The activities of Unions NSW are funded by union members and include publicly advocating for better government policies, laws and social services.
Unions NSW is looking for a Campaigns Organiser to join our Campaigns Team.
Job Role
The Campaigns Organiser position is an activist role and will work under the direction of the Secretary and with the Campaigns Team Lead to coordinate campaigns and grow the NSW union movement.
Other relationships include:
- working with other members of the Campaigns and Communication Teams;
- liaison with internal members of other teams including Industrial, Research and Administration.
- working with affiliated union campaigners within designated campaigns and projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Secretary and the Campaigns Team Lead to work to develop and implement Unions NSW campaigning goals by undertaking the following activities:
- Develop a winning campaign culture at Unions NSW and across the NSW union movement.
- Assist in positioning Unions NSW as the voice for working people in NSW through innovative strategic campaigning.
- Assist in ensuring all campaigns contribute to developing the campaigning, industrial and skill capacity within affiliated unions and the NSW union movement.
- Ensure campaigns target workers with low levels of union membership including young workers, workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, contractors and workers engaged in the “new economy”.
- Assist with executing multi union campaigns and growth action plans contained in the Unions NSW Strategic Plan and as directed by the Secretary.
- Work with the Campaigns and Communication teams to develop engaging content and messaging across communications mediums including social media, email and SMS.
- Support lead generation, supporter journeys and digital organising by using campaign tools, CRMs and data platforms to track, manage and deepen supporter engagement
- Organise and deliver various Unions NSW campaign activities which support campaigns including rallies, phonebanks, community events, fundraisers, door knocks and streets stalls.
- Assist with planning, coordinating and executing the Union Summer Program as part of introducing young activists to the NSW union movement.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, NGOs and the wider union movement.
- Help manage campaigns and project budgets as directed by the CFO and Secretary.
- Provide transparent and effective reporting of campaign strategy, approach, plans and progress to Secretary.
- Travel as required to work with affiliates and partner organisations in NSW.
- Assist with other activities as directed by the Secretary.
Essential criteria
- 3–5 years’ experience developing and delivering growth, issue-based, industrial and/or political campaigns (union, advocacy or NGO context).
- Experience developing strategic and creative campaign communications to engage and mobilise target audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of the trade union movement.
- Experience using activist mapping and ladders of engagement to move supporters into active participation and leadership.
- Strong organising skills, including the ability to build relationships and conduct effective one-on-one conversations to recruit and develop activists.
- Ability to use digital tools and platforms (e.g. social media, CRMs) to organise, engage and mobilise workers, including using data to inform campaign strategy.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound judgement, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training.
To perform the Campaigns Organiser position, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:
- A valid driver’s license.

Conditions and Entitlements
An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which includes:
- Personal Leave: 10 days per annum (accumulative).
- Annual Leave: 5 weeks annual leave plus additional leave over Christmas with 17.5% leave loading.
- Long Service Leave: 2 months after 10 years’ service.
- Superannuation guarantee (SG) employer contribution plus an additional 2% for female staff.
- Parental Leave: 52 weeks leave including 22 weeks paid parental leave or 3 weeks paid parental leave non-primary carer.

Hours of work
- 35 hours per week which includes some out of hours work and reasonable overtime. Will include some weekend work during peak campaigning periods.
