The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

The Tool of the Trade programs focus is on helping young people to develop their general life and social engagement skills.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Support Facilitator to assist young people in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula regions, who are deemed at risk of long term unemployment through early school leaving or disengagement from education, to reengage with the education and training sectors and/or assist them to secure traineeships, apprenticeships or paid employment.

You will successfully

  • Recognise the importance of young people being engaged within their community and in some form of education and training to gain employment and assist in the prevention of further social disadvantage.
  • Facilitate young people's hands-on experience of various trades through work experience and the "Trade Tasters" that are organised in partnership with local TAFE colleges
  • Recognise the link between early school leaving (including low educational achievement) and subsequent long-term unemployment and other social disadvantages (including poverty, homelessness, substance abuse and poor mental/physical health)
  • Motivate and inspire young people to engage in all aspects of the program including Trade Tasters, Health & Wellbeing, Certified Training, Skill Development Sessions, Leadership & Mentoring Days, Industry Tours and Work Experience
  • Monitoring of students and/or volunteers and client peer mentors who will play an active role in the service design and delivery of our programs

This is a permanent position, offering a 9 day fortnight roster (.9EFT) based in Frankston however travel may be required to different sites and programs.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in social welfare/sciences or related field, a degree qualification is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.
