The Salvation Army Youth Services - Upton Rd provides a highly supportive and therapeutic youth refuge accommodation to young people & families experiencing significant crisis and homelessness.

About the program:

The program works intensively with young people to address issues that contribute to their unique experience of crisis & homelessness, with a particular focus on assisting young people to:

  • Develop life and living skills to prepare for independence
  • Address issues in relation to health, AOD & mental health
  • Promote opportunities to overcome exclusion and isolation
  • Explore education pathways and participation
  • Work towards long term sustainable housing

Salvation Army Youth Family Services are committed to working in partnership with young people aged 16-25 to address the issues contributing to their unique experience of crisis & homelessness. The program is operates under the framework of a Psychologically Informed Environment.

The role:

The Youth Participation Worker works alongside young people to ensure that the voices of young people are reflected throughout the Salvation Army Youth Services - Upton Rd.

The position will establish effective relationships with young people that encourage self-determination and participation and promote and integrate a culture of youth participation across Youth and Family services.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Develop a community at College Square, Somerset and PCYC properties through bi-weekly outreach visits that foster a sense of community and develop the life and living skills of residents
  • Promote social inclusion through facilitation of school holiday programs and other recreational activities, including community events to mark significant days such as NAIDOC Week and IDAHOBIT Day
  • Facilitate weekly Resident's Meetings at Upton Road, Somerset and PCYC p properties, and conduct exit interviews with clients of Youth Services
  • Drive the Upton Road Social Enterprise Initiative and create opportunities for employment and education through facilitation of the Upton Road Seedling Sale (monthly) and the development of partnerships with relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute to maintaining the Upton Road permaculture gardens and promoting youth participation in the garden program
  • Work independently and respond effectively to critical incidents as per policy and procedure, including reporting all incidents and risks to management
  • All client interactions are documented with SAMIS and met program expectations around case note standard
  • Engage in opportunities for reflective practice and opportunities for professional development and participate in supervision with line manager

Hours and salary:

This role is a fixed-term (12 month) part-time position of 49 hours a fortnight:

  • Monday: 2pm - 8pm
  • Tuesday: 2pm - 8pm
  • Wednesday: 3pm - 10pm
  • Thursday: 8am - 2pm

In addition, the position supports the Upton Road Plant and Seedling Sale with one five hour Saturday shift a month.
Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 5.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Promote and integrate a culture of youth participation across TSA Youth Services.
  • A strong commitment to working within a Psychologically Informed Environment.
  • Establish effective relationships with young people that encourage self-determination and participation. ·
  • Develop connections and formalise partnerships with key stakeholders such as local government and community organisations to create opportunities for young people in their local community.
  • Contribute to the Youth Participation and Social Inclusion Portfolio Group and other relevant Youth Participation networks.

Mandatory requirements:

  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
