Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment, and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

About the role

To support young people with problematic Alcohol and other Dependent substance use, through their journey of recovery. This support is achieved through the effective case management of clients and working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic and comprehensive supports. Engaging and supporting clients in pro-social activities that are aligned with the values and mission of the Salvation Army.

You will successfully

  • Provide effective support to young people and young families with problematic alcohol and other dependent substance use, within a Case Management Framework, including advocacy, referral and assessment
  • Develop and maintain a solid working knowledge of AOD interventions and trends
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with other agencies to achieve the best outcomes for young people
  • Assist clients to develop or re-establish appropriate family and social networks
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive case plans; developed during intake interviews and updated at each contact consultation, in collaboration with clients and other staff members
  • Safe transport of clients in TSA leased vehicle
  • Escalate any critical incidents to the team leader/management
  • Develop supportive relationships with clients within the values and ethos of TSA
  • Protect and maintain client confidentiality whilst adhering to legislative privacy principles and TSA policies and procedures
  • Provide orientation, including 'Code of Conduct', to all new clients on admission
  • Assist clients to carry out their support plan, and monitor and review the plan in line with the service policy and procedure
  • Monitor client appointments and outings ensuring all are returned by agreed time

This is a full-time, permanent position located in Townsville, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 4 award.

You will have

  • Minimum of Diploma level qualifications in community / youth services or similar discipline or minimum certificate qualifications and/or extensive experience
  • Solid level of experience (minimum 2+ years) in the implementation of case management and systems for disadvantaged and/or complex needs clients
  • An understanding of trauma, mental health and social and emotional development
  • Experience working with young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions
  • Experience working in collaboration with other organisations to develop and tailor programs to meet clients' needs
  • Desirable that the successful applicants have an understanding of the issues faced by people experiencing problematic alcohol and other dependent substance use, mental ill health and other disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with problematic alcohol and other dependent substance use, substance abuse and psychiatric conditions
  • Highly effective planning, organisational, problem solving and evaluation skills
