As a Support Worker (Foster House) you will enable clients to feel safe and supported by providing assistance with practical tasks and supporting their case plans in line with the mission and values of TSA. This role is based at the service and will include some Day, Afternoon & Night shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Services:

  1. To offer appropriate support and assistance to clients in a collaborative client focused approach aimed at empowering and working with participants to effectively meet individual needs in line with client case plans with the assigned Facilitator.
  2. Duties include but not limited to maintaining an environment that provides an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness and to undertake other appropriate practical caring tasks which may include: cleaning and tidying residents rooms, making and changing beds, cleaning of exceptionally dirty areas, preparing drinks and light snacks, preparing soiled laundry for laundering etc.
  3. Undertake ad-hoc duties as requested by Centre Manager.

Networking and Partnerships:

  1. Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of support options for Men within TSA Network and external agencies and work collaboratively and professionally with other agencies as appropriate and required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Community Services, Social Work or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in a community setting, particularly working with those experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, drug and/or alcohol addictions.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the community services sector in NSW, with a specific emphasis on homelessness and family/domestic violence (including issues, trends, resources & services etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key service providers.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence.
  • Current First Aid & Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
  • Criminal History Check & Clear Working with Children Check.
  • WHS - knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation.
  • Ongoing professional development required to maintain skills for the role.

  • Strong problem solving, conflict resolution and evaluation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with and advocate/negotiate for a range of internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Energetic and flexible with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to critically reflect on professional practice and attitudes.
  • Solid level of computer literacy (CIMS, MS Office, IBM Lotus Notes, SAMIS).
  • Experience in Trauma Informed Care approach.

  • Incumbents need to have a reasonable level of fitness in order to carry out the duties of this position.
