The Support Worker (Foster House) will enable clients to feel safe and supported by providing assistance with practical tasks and supporting their case plans in line with the mission and values of TSA. This role is based at the service (Surry Hills) and will include some Day, Afternoon & Night shifts.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Providing support to Men experiencing homelessness with a variety of needs including complex needs using a Trauma Informed Care approach
  • Develop effective relationships with our clients and refer to relevant services where appropriate
  • Work independently to provide support by following the case plan developed by the Case Worker
  • Report critical incidents that are likely to impact on the client, program staff or other persons promptly
  • Maintain an environment that provides an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness and to undertake other appropriate practical caring tasks for our men which may include: cleaning and tidying residents rooms, making and changing beds, cleaning of exceptionally dirty areas, preparing drinks and light snacks, preparing soiled laundry for laundering etc

ABOUT YOU

Required

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote, support and model the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • A passion for working alongside the people we support and assist
  • Tertiary Qualifications within community services, social work or similar discipline
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a team environment and work with strong personal initiative
  • Ability to remain calm and take appropriate action in an emergency situation
  • Ability to engage in a range of activities supporting residents in an accommodation support setting
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children's Check
  • Flexibility to work casual shifts on a 24 hour roster.
  • Awareness of WH&S matters

Desirable

  • Previous Community Service Experience
  • Experience working in a Trauma Informed Care Framework.
  • Drivers Licence
  • Strong Customer Service Skills
