The Salvation Army, Drug and Alcohol Services - Top End provides a structured 12 week residential and day program. The program is based in the principles of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) providing individual weekly counselling, group work, skills development and recreational activities with each client allocated a Case Manager for the duration of their program.

You will be able to provide evidence-based best practice specialist psychological services to clients presenting with substance use problems while accessing the Sunrise Centre, Alcohol and Other Drugs Rehabilitation program.

The successful clinical psychologist will apply psychological therapies and procedures to help clients overcome a range of problems including depression, addiction, anxiety, challenging behaviour, neurological disorders, serious and permanent mental ill-health and learning disabilities

This is a permanent full-time position 38 hours per week based at Sunrise Centre, Berrimah.

You will successfully

  • Conduct assessment, diagnosis, case formulation and treatment of psychopathology as it is variously manifested in cognitive, emotional, motivational, personality and behavioural disturbances
  • Plan and select appropriate specialist psychosocial/psychometric assessments for clients depending on their needs
  • With consultation, withdrawal of clients, matters relating to the safety of clients, staff or others; and complaints
  • Provide clinical services to a designated number of clients
  • Ensure the use of psychometrically sound screening and assessment procedures to inform appropriate treatment interventions
  • Exercise independent judgement in the application and adaptation of psychological principles, methods, and techniques.

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.

You will have

  • Degree in psychology or similar, with background experience in Alcohol & Other Drugs
  • Provisional Psychologists must have or be eligible to apply for provisional registration under the national registration scheme (AHPRA)
  • Knowledge of Alcohol & Other Drugs, community services and health sectors (preferably in a residential treatment setting)
  • A valid Employee Working with Children Check
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current Drivers license
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
