PRAP, the Private Rental Assistance Program, is a preventative intervention that provides holistic support to households experiencing or at risk of homelessness. PRAP is intended to prevent or end homelessness and housing crisis by:

  • Rapidly rehousing people capable of sustaining private rental after initial support.
  • Supporting at risk households to access and/or sustain affordable and appropriate housing in the private rental market.
  • Assisting people who currently live in crisis, transitional or social housing to become independent in the private rental market.

The private rental broker function is focused on generating and maintaining private rental access opportunities for clients, rather than direct client support.

THE ROLE

PRAP are currently seeking currently seeking a values-driven Private Rental Broker to work collaboratively with other specialist homelessness services and agencies where people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness may be present. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Access to PRAP Brokerage. Management of the funds, including dispersal and acquittal. Funds management must be within PRAP brokerage Guidelines and according to TSA policy and documented processes
  • Through an awareness of housing market features and forces, assist eligible households to access rental opportunities
  • Apply financial support within a clearly articulated case plan and within PRAP brokerage guidelines
  • Strong relationships are built with real estate agencies and bodies, as well as landlords
  • Comprehensive assessment should identify a household's capacity to access and sustain private rental tenancies ensuring linkage to eligible government and other assistances
  • Brokerage documentation and administration
  • Brokerage use is closely monitored for compliance with guidelines as well as achieving good client outcomes

The PRAP Broker is part of a Private Rental team who work closely with Homelessness Entry Point IAP teams and other specialist homelessness services, programs and teams.

This position is based in Sunshine, and will provide services at other sites within the Brimbank-Melton region from time to time.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a full-time position, 38 hours per week fixed term to 30 June 2021.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Social stream, level 5.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Working understanding of and experience in a human services environment
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate service sectors and negotiate outcomes on behalf of others
  • A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 is essential to the role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of homelessness including context, causes, issues, philosophies and legislation
  • Diploma or above tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
