The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high quality, person centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

PRAP Plus is a new initiative, a support program addressing the need for increased support for some households accessing private rental. PRAP Plus is an outreach intervention for households living in or entering private rental tenancies that require additional practical support to establish or maintain their housing.

PRAP Plus is designed to:

  • Provide time-limited outreach intervention to support tenancies.
  • Address issues which are contributing to the risk of tenancy breakdown.
  • Achieve outcomes that lead to successful, sustainable private rental tenancies.
  • Reduce preventable exits from private rental.
  • Prevent homelessness.

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive PRAP Plus Worker to be part of our Private Rental team who work closely with Homelessness Entry Point IAP teams and other specialist homelessness services, programs and teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides a time limited case management support with an indicative case load of 12 households.
  • Develop & maintain strong relationships with real estate agencies and bodies
  • Attend inspections with clients, role modelling communication and presentation at inspections
  • Participate in, comply with, and be supported by WHS outreaching worker safety risk management processes Assist the client to liaise and negotiate with real estate agents, including understanding rental ledgers and reporting maintenance
  • Advocacy including providing support at VCAT, negotiating agreements with real estate agents and supporting tenants whose tenancies are at risk

Reporting to the PRAP Coordinator, Western Metro Homelessness this position is based at The Salvation Army's Western Metro Homelessness services, Sunshine VIC, and works across the Brimbank-Melton region. The PRAP Plus worker is an outreaching position and will work primarily with clients in the communities and settings where they live.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a permanent full time position, 38 hours per week.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 5.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A working understanding of and experience in a human services environment
  • Client outreach experience demonstrating sound risk management practices and case management delivery (essential)
  • A working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (essential)
  • Diploma or above tertiary qualification in a relevant social work or human services field
