About Us
Toolangi Elite produces generation zero high health seed potatoes. The management of the high health status of seed potatoes is vital as many potato diseases are systemic in potato plants and can be carried in or on the surface of seed tubers, hence these diseases can be multiplied when planted. Seed potato certification has a substantial role in the biosecurity of the potato industry; furthermore reducing disease prevalence has flow on effects to the reduced use of chemicals in the environment.
The reduction of prevalence of pests and diseases from using certified seed in the field means that less pesticides and harmful chemicals need to be used to kill or prevent their emergence. Less chemicals used in agriculture has beneficial outcomes for the environment. The use of integrated pest management (which includes the use of certified seed) reduces the reliance on chemical insecticides.
Toolangi Elite is committed to sustainability and is in the final stages of developing an independently audited Environmental Management System to underpin the processes and procedures and further strengthen Toolangi Elite’s environmental credentials. Toolangi Elite also applied for the Premier's sustainability awards.
There are 3 positions currently available in a high-health biosecurity potato minutuber production facility at Toolangi. Employment to start as casual with the opportunity for a more permanent position, to start immediately.
Applicants must have:
- Current drivers license
- Ability to work in a team and work well with others, as well as ability to work autonomously
- Good communication skills and shown initiative
- Ability to use a computer
- Organised with a high attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors
- Plant and disease identification is desirable but not essential
- Forklift license is desirable but not essential
