Board Opportunities x2 (Voluntary) - Melbourne / Sydney

Transparency International Australia

Transparency International Australia is looking to appoint two Directors.

Transparency International is a global movement which plays a leading role in combatting corruption. It works with government, business, civil society and citizens to stop the abuse of power, bribery and secret deals which are widely recognised to be serious impediments to economic development and a de-stabilising social force.

Transparency International Australia (TIA) is one of more than 100 national chapters worldwide. TIA has been operating as an accredited Transparency International Chapter since 1995, focussing on ways in which Government and Australian-based companies and institutions can address corruption issues. TIA also works with TI chapters in the Asia-Pacific to address corruption risks in the infrastructure sector and since 2016, TIA has led a global program with more than 20 chapters to address corruption in the mining sector on behalf of the TI movement.

The TIA Board guides the organisation’s strategy, growth, and direction and ensures compliance with board duties and obligations. The Board is responsible for operating in a manner that is consistent with, and contributes to, the global Transparency International movement.

The Board of TIA is looking to appoint two new Directors. One of these directors may have the opportunity to become Deputy Chair. The Director roles will require previous experience of working at board level and have specific expertise covering all or some of the following areas: fundraising, philanthropy, governance, financial and risk oversight, senior legal practice, international development, government relations, and responsible business conduct.

In addition, candidates for the roles need to demonstrate high levels of personal integrity, a strong understanding of director’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities, high-level inclusive communication skills and a sophisticated understanding of governance and strategic planning.

The Board meets five or six times a year mostly by video link but also in Melbourne and Sydney.

The roles are not remunerated but reasonable travel expenses to attend meetings will be reimbursed.
