Project Description:

The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme is a flagship Australian Government initiative supporting workers from 9 Pacific Island Countries and Timor-Leste to work in Australia. The Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program (PLMSP) provides support to DFAT and partner governments to strengthen labour mobility outcomes. The program focuses on inclusive access, economic benefits, and risk mitigation, while delivering capacity building, research, and support services.

About the Work:

The Economic Research Officer supports the implementation of the PLMSP economic research program. The role contributes to analysis of labour mobility impacts, including remittances and labour market effects. It involves working with research teams and stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights. The position offers exposure to applied economic research in an international development context within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of economic research activities, including remittance modelling, forecasting, research reviews, and data requests
  • Contribute to high-quality reports, dashboards, analyses, and presentations
  • Support delivery of annual research plans, including literature reviews and data collection
  • Track and report on progress of research activities across the project lifecycle
  • Ensure analysis reflects impacts on diverse populations
  • Align research outputs with PLMSP program outcomes
  • Collaborate with research team members and contracted researchers
  • Support broader monitoring, evaluation, research and learning activities
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and support engagement activities
  • Adapt to changing research priorities and work across concurrent projects

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Economics or a relevant research discipline
  • Experience conducting economic analysis and interpreting data
  • Experience working with and interpreting economic models
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in quantitative research and data collection
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders, including government and multilateral actors
  • Ability to balance independent work and team collaboration
  • Demonstrated cultural competency with diverse populations
