Who we are:

The Parenthood is a not for profit movement of Australian parents, carers and supporters. We represent thousands of mums, dads, grandparents and primary carers who want a voice in the issues that matter most to parents.

We believe that parents are major stakeholders in the future of Australia, but lack a powerful collective voice.

There are key issues that affect parents at major pressure points early on in their child’s life, which can prevent them from having a positive parenting experience.

We focus our efforts on ensuring parents can have a voice to affect change on those key issues.

The Parenthood is led by a board of directors with extensive experience in digital campaigning, strategic communications, movement building and the big issues facing today's parents and children. They take responsibility for The Parenthood's long-term strategy and financial governance.

The Position:

The Campaigns, Communications and Engagement Manager has three areas of responsibility:

  1. They will have primary responsibility for the implementation of the digital aspects of The Parenthood’s campaigns and general online presence. This includes:
    • Creating and managing digital content for owned channels through a structured strategic engagement program
    • Generating new ideas for online campaigning opportunities, media stories and membership growth
    • Developing and implementing a supporter fundraising strategy
  2. They will also have responsibility for membership empowerment, membership management and communication with members. This will include tasks like:
    • Identifying, engaging and empowering potential member activists and supporting their increased involvement in key campaigns
    • Responding to member inquiries and concerns via email and social media
    • Identifying methods to limit unsubscribe rates to ensure continued positive net growth
  3. In addition, this role will have some responsibility for the media engagement and profile of The Parenthood including:
    • Proactive and reactive media statements and responses
    • Writing media content, articles and communication strategies
    • Developing public events and briefing and liaising with members of the media
    • Supporting the Executive Director in media appearances and organising

The role will also require engagement with and support for the Executive Director on overarching campaign strategy above and beyond digital engagement.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Strong professional communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a small team, under pressure and achieving targets within a given deadline
  • 2-3 years experience in digital organising or campaign management
  • Experience creating compelling content and impactful copy
  • Project management experience within a context of coordinating diverse activities within tight deadlines and budget
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting a variety of information
  • [Valued, but not essential:] Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline including communications, marketing, politics, environmental science, management/business or equivalent relevant work experience
