Mental Health Support Worker - Cairns

The Junction Cairns

Join something different – where community is the service

At The Junction Clubhouse Cairns, we’re not a traditional service. We are a vibrant, member-led community where people living with mental ill-health rebuild confidence, connection, and purpose through meaningful participation.

Guided by the internationally recognised Clubhouse model, our members and staff work side-by-side to run the Clubhouse, develop skills, and create pathways into employment, education, and community life. For more information, please click here: clubhouse-intl.org

We’re now looking for a Mental Health Support Workers to join our team in a blended role, working both:

  • Within the Clubhouse (group-based, community model)
  • Alongside participants in the community (individual supports)

About the Role

This is not your typical support worker job.

You’ll work in a dynamic, hands-on environment where no two days look the same. One moment you might be:

  • Supporting members to run reception, prepare meals or manage admin tasks
  • Facilitating the work-ordered day alongside members
  • Providing 1:1 outreach or goal-focused support in the community
  • Helping someone take steps toward employment, study or housing
  • Running or co-designing social and recreational activities

At The Junction, we don’t “deliver programs” to people, we build them together.

Like other Clubhouses, we focus on strengths, not illness, and believe every person has something valuable to contribute.

What You’ll Do

  • Work side-by-side with members to deliver the daily operations of the Clubhouse
  • Facilitate a meaningful and engaging work-ordered day environment
  • Support individuals to identify and achieve goals across employment, education, housing and wellbeing
  • Provide NDIS-funded individual supports, including outreach and capacity building
  • Create and support real work opportunities, not simulated activities
  • Build genuine relationships that reduce isolation and strengthen belonging
  • Contribute to a positive, energetic and recovery-oriented culture
  • Participate in evening and weekend social programs

About You

You’re someone who:

  • Believes in recovery, strengths and human potential
  • Enjoys working alongside people, not directing them
  • Thrives in a role that is varied, active and people-focused
  • Can balance individual supports with group facilitation
  • Is adaptable, proactive and community-minded

Essential

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health (or similar)
  • Experience supporting people with mental ill-health
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Current driver’s licence
  • NDIS Worker Screening (or ability to obtain)

Highly Valued

  • Understanding of the Clubhouse model
  • Experience with NDIS and community supports
  • Passion for employment, social inclusion and community development

Why Join The Junction Clubhouse?

At The Junction, you’ll be part of a team that lives its values:

  • Purpose – we create pathways to better mental health
  • Belonging – everyone has a place here
  • Growth – for members and staff
  • Community – we do this together
  • Non-judgement – always
