About the Club

The Gaelic Club is a not-for-profit club and bar used to support Irish cultural events, including traditional music sessions, Céilithe, Gaelic sporting events, concerts, and any other cultural events. It aims to provide a welcoming social and cultural club with liquid refreshments, the provision of musical and sporting activities linked with Irish culture, supporting local and small acts as well as a hub for social connection.

Position – Bar Manager – 0.4FTE

The Bar Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day bar operations at The Gaelic Club, ensuring high-quality service, and a welcoming environment for members and guests. The role plays an important part in supporting the Club’s Irish cultural identity, events, and community engagement.

The Club is seeking a part-time bar manager to manage the day-to-day bar operations, manage a small casual team of bar attendants, the management of stock and ensure costs are controlled.

The permanent hours are 9 hours on a Friday for our regular Friday opening with the remaining 6.2 hours used to ensure stock is managed, the bar is maintained and employees are rostered. Additional hours are on an ‘as needs’ basis.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Sound knowledge of bar operations, including opening and closing procedures, stock control, ordering, inventory management, and cash handling.
  2. The ability to create and implement standard operating procedures and maintaining high service standards.[ML3] 
  3. Comprehensive understanding of beers, Irish whiskey, spirits, wines, cocktails, and draught systems.
  4. Knowledge of liquor licensing laws, responsible service of alcohol requirements, workplace health and safety, and food safety regulations.
  5. Commitment to maintaining compliance with all legislative and venue policies.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to build positive relationships with customers, staff, suppliers, and management.
  8. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and special events as required.
  9. Please provide two referees.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in an Irish pub environment.
  • Cocktail, or Whisky certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience organising live entertainment, sporting events, or themed promotions.
  • Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Relevant qualification in Hospitality Management or Business.
