The Opportunity 

The Embrace Team at the Telethon Kids Institute is seeking applications from enthusiastic and ambitious researchers for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in youth suicide prevention.

The successful applicant will be directly mentored by Associate Professor, Ashleigh Lin and contribute to the youth mental health research program conducted at the Telethon Kids Institute (Perth, Australia). The Embrace Team is made up of a large group of passionate and dedicated researchers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds who have one objective: Mentally healthy futures for our children and young people. 

The Role

The successful applicant will lead youth suicide prevention research at the Telethon Kids Institute and will be responsible for independently managing their own projects, requiring a high degree of responsibility, self-motivation and organisation. The Fellow will also be expected to function as an effective and central team member of a larger, highly cohesive research team.

This is a full-time role for 3 years. Salary will be between $95,000 and $115,000 AUD depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, plus superannuation and generous salary packaging. We encourage postdocs with mental health experience to apply.

Your Experience

You will have a Doctoral qualification relevant to mental health, health promotion, public health, or a related field plus the following skills/experience:

  •  Evidence of independent research in a relevant mental health area, preferably in suicide prevention;
  • Ability to collaborate with service providers and people with lived experience of suicide or mental illness, and other community stakeholders;
  • Experience writing successful funding applications;
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting, analysing and interpreting a range of data;
  • Solid record of conference presentations, and the ability to present research findings in a clear and engaging way;
  • Track record of publications in mental health/suicide prevention in high quality journals and/or public impact reports;
  • Highly developed oral and written communication/interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Skills in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies;
  • Experience undertaking research in a cross-cultural context; and
  • Experience in team leadership and student supervision.
