About the role

Teach Well is seeking an experienced secondary science educator to join our team as a Program Lead – Secondary Science. This role can be part-time or full-time and is offered on a fixed-term contract (1–2 years).

As a Program Lead, you will play a key role in designing, leading and delivering Teach Well’s professional learning programs, with a particular focus on supporting secondary science teachers. You will work closely with a high-performing national team to ensure the quality, consistency and continuous improvement of our programs, while fostering a supportive and engaging learning community for participants.

You will provide expert guidance to teachers and school leaders on instructional practice and teaching, including coaching and feedback on participant submissions. You will also contribute to program planning, project delivery and stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships with schools, systems and partners.

Depending on the experience of the successful candidate, the role may also involve working as part of the Ochre Education team providing implementation support of the Ochre secondary science curriculum to schools and schooling systems. This may include developing guidance materials, and developing and delivering professional learning

The role is based anywhere in Australia (with a slight preference for Western Australia or Victoria) and requires some interstate travel for program delivery.

Key responsibilities

This role may include additional responsibilities as required to support Teach Well’s goals and impact.

Program design and content development

  • Lead the development of secondary science program content informed by evidence-based practice 
  • Create codified slides, scripts and course materials
  • Support the broader Teach Well team to build knowledge of best practice in secondary science teaching

Program delivery and facilitation

  • Deliver and facilitate Teach Well’s Masterclass Series in High-Impact Instruction and other programs, courses and workshops
  • Model effective teaching practices and support high-quality participant engagement
  • Prepare and codify documentation to ensure consistent, quality-assured delivery across cohorts
  • Contribute to alumni professional learning and ongoing community connections

Coaching and participant support

  • Provide coaching and feedback to participants, including reviewing lesson videos, reflections and resources
  • Participate in quality assurance processes to ensure consistency of feedback and facilitation
  • Support participants with questions related to teaching practice and school leadership
  • Work closely with Cohort Officers to ensure a seamless participant experience

Project delivery and impact

  • Execute work plans for projects and partnerships
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reporting on impact and outcomes
  • Participate in project and stakeholder meetings, leading these where appropriate
  • Contribute to impact tracking, cohort reports and Teach Well’s annual Impact Report

Continuous improvement and community-building

  • Identify and review relevant research to inform program improvement
  • Trial and refine new ideas to strengthen participant outcomes
  • Help build a national community of practice across teachers, schools and systems
  • Represent Teach Well with schools, systems and partners where appropriate

Working with the Ochre Education team

  • Potentially working with the Ochre Education Team, providing curriculum implementation support - This could include the development of a range of guidance materials, and the design and delivery of professional learning supports.
  • Supports will be suitable for both school leaders leading implementation across a department or faculty, as well as classroom teachers.
  • Working closely with Ochre's Education's existing secondary science curriculum team

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Deep content, curriculum, and pedagogical knowledge in secondary science (Years 7–10)
  • At least 4 years of classroom teaching experience, with demonstrated experience teaching secondary science
  • Strong commitment to evidence-informed teaching and high-impact instruction
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Current Working with Children Check and Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check

Desirable

  • Experience teaching with Ochre curriculum materials
  • Experience in a school leadership, instructional coaching or internal coaching role
  • Experience delivering professional learning for teachers
  • Formal or informal coaching experience
  • Prior participation in Teach Well programs
  • Full driver’s licence and willingness to travel
