Our Organisation

At The Benevolent Society, we believe every person deserves to live life on their own terms, with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging. For over two centuries, this belief has shaped who we are and how we work.

As a not‑for‑profit, independent and non‑religious organisation, we proudly embrace diversity and are deeply committed to reconciliation. We welcome people from all backgrounds, identities and experiences to join us in creating positive change.

About the role

As our Career Coach within Carer Gateway, you will support carers to build the confidence, skills and pathways needed to pursue meaningful employment and career opportunities. Through one-on-one coaching and tailored support, you will empower carers to overcome barriers, identify opportunities and take meaningful steps towards employment and greater independence.

Working across phone, online and face-to-face settings, you will manage a caseload, build community partnerships and connect carers with opportunities, services and networks that support their success.

Duties

  • Deliver personalised career coaching and support to carers, helping them identify goals and develop practical employment pathways.
  • Partner with carers to develop and implement tailored action plans that support employment outcomes, capability building and long-term independence.
  • Support carers with career exploration, job readiness, resume development, applications, interview preparation and networking opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with employers, training providers, community organisations and internal stakeholders to create pathways and opportunities for carers.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, outcome tracking and program reporting to demonstrate client progress and program impact.
  • Work autonomously to effectively manage competing priorities, client needs and program deliverables.

Skills and Experience

We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you’ll have:

  • Relevant qualifications in community services, employment services, social work, psychology or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Experience supporting clients with complex personal, social or vocational barriers.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, employment services, case management, community services or a related field.
  • Understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by carers, including young carers.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to navigate challenging conversations with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Experience or understanding of working with culturally diverse and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously, manage a caseload and balance competing priorities.
  • A strengths-based approach and a genuine passion for building the confidence, capability and independence of others.
