The TLC is a for-purpose (not-for-profit), non-political, science and community-based organisation that protects nature on private land in Tasmania. Through science, community, and enduring commitment, we inspire and empower people to conserve nature in Tasmania. We do this for the benefit of current and future generations and for nature itself.
We conserve important habitats and ecosystems by raising funds to buy and manage private land and by working with landholders to protect nature on their land. In a changing world, our work is more important than ever. We hold that nature underpins all life and that our efforts contribute to a future where nature is flourishing, valued and fundamental to Tasmania’s character. We believe we achieve more for nature by working with others and by applying the best available science in our decision making.
TLC’s strategy is to expand protection and care for nature by integrating conservation models. These include TLC reserves that are owned and managed in perpetuity, land protected by conservation covenants through our Revolving Fund, and by working with landowners to protect the ecological values on their properties through programs including the Midlands Conservation Partnership, Land for Wildlife, Gardens for Wildlife and WildTracker. In 25 years of operation, TLC has helped to conserve 110,000 hectares throughout Tasmania. Our aim is to extend the land we manage as permanent reserve and other land conserved by an additional 25% by 2030 by continuing to build a community for conservation in Tasmania.
The Head of Philanthropy & Engagement is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role responsible for developing and delivering TLC's Philanthropy and Engagement program. You will lead a dynamic team to grow support for conservation through compelling communications, community engagement and giving programs. To help secure the future of nature on private land in Tasmania, you will oversee TLC's engagement activities - communications, volunteering, events and partnerships - and philanthropic programs - major gifts, bequests, regular giving, property campaigns and fundraising into the TLC Foundation. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will work closely with the CEO and colleagues across the organisation to deliver TLC's Strategic Plan.
You will play a central role in connecting people to nature and inspiring investment in long-term conservation outcomes by:
You are a strategic and collaborative leader with a passion for people and purpose. You understand that meaningful impact is achieved with both heart and brain to connect genuinely with people in relentless pursuit of good outcomes. You bring:
To give you an edge, you will also have experience in the not-for-profit sector and an understanding of nature conservation in Tasmania.
The position is offered as an ongoing full-time role (1 FTE = 76 hours / fortnight, with regular work hours negotiable), based in Tasmania, ideally from TLC's Hobart office. The TLC provides a flexible work environment where a good work-life balance can be maintained. A remuneration package is offered based on TLC Salary Point EL1-2 ($125,800 - 130,000 per annum plus statutory superannuation) commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience. We envision a starting date in September 2026.
