TasCOSS is seeking a Policy Officer to conduct analysis, undertake research and develop policy for TasCOSS across a broad range of social policy areas.

  • Location: Hobart, Tasmania
  • Conditions: 0.8 FTE (30.4 hours per week); fixed-term — 3-year contract, may be extended subject to funding
  • Classification: SCHCADS Level 5-6, depending on skills and experience

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a part-time Policy Officer to work in our Hobart office.

The Policy Officer will be responsible for producing high quality research, policy advice, reports and government submissions that draw on the experiences and voices of our members and Tasmanians living on low incomes and experiencing disadvantage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Research, consultation and preparation of submissions and policy briefs across a broad range of social policy areas.
  • Undertake consultations with key stakeholders and represent TasCOSS in policy forums.
  • Plan, manage, deliver and evaluate TasCOSS projects.
  • Assistance with the development and implementation of TasCOSS advocacy and campaign strategies.

TO BE ELIGIBLE AND SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A strong understanding of Tasmanian political structures and the community services industry.
  • Experience in planning and delivering on projects, consultations and research.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.

The successful candidate will be committed to social justice, be highly motivated, a great communicator and skilled in managing stakeholders at all levels. You will be able to work autonomously as well as with the team and confidently represent TasCOSS in a range of forums.
