Primary Purpose of Role:

  • Support the Database Manager in administering the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database.
  • Data entry and validation.
  • Support the Database Manager in data analysis and technical report generation and research through the provision of datasets, data charts and tables.
  • Provide data support to external stakeholders including not-for-profits, government agencies, researchers, and more.
  • Support TBF staff with data for project and activity reporting.
  • Provide support for AMDI Database users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain data system files to ensure data quality, integrity and performance.
  • Data QA and file maintenance using SQL and AMDI Administration software.
  • Identify and develop workflows to Automate DBA processes.
  • Perform system health checks and monitor and maintain user access.
  • Maintain ITIL best practices.
  • Maintain system security.
  • Provide support to stakeholders and users in accessing systems and datasets.
  • Documentation of Procedures and Processes
  • Build strong relationships with field-based volunteers, partner organisations, community network groups, and TBF employees.
  • Work with developers and software architects to implement system improvements.
  • Develop and deliver resources and supporting documentation for database users.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in SQL relational database administration (minimum 1-2 years experience).
  • Experience in Amazon AWS Cloud-based applications, EC2 Cloud computing Services and AWS Quicksight (minimum 1-2 years experience).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Access,
  • Proficiency in Google Applications (Sheets, Workspace).
  • Experience working in database administration.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework.
  • Analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated data visualisation and analytical skills.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimisation (PTO) using monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience in Firebase by Google
  • Experience in GIS mapping and geospatial database systems is desirable.
  • Experience in writing technical and research reports.
