We are seeking law students to join us as Paralegals at Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre (NSCLC).
NSCLC aims to provide clients with a service that is specific to their needs. Our team of volunteers and workers are dedicated to ensuring we raise community awareness on legal information, advice and options. We understand that legal and social matters can be complex and often require a combination of legal, social and financial support.
You are a key part of the NSCLC team dedicated to serving clients from a range of vulnerable groups in the Western Australian community. One element of our entire Northern Suburbs Community Legal Services Team has in common, is the belief in Social Justice – the right that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice and opportunity.
The primary purpose of these roles is to provide support to our solicitors and advocacy to clients of NSCLC experiencing difficulties with legal and social matters. The paralegal also develops and presents community education as required.
One 0.5 FTE paralegal role will be an outreach role for Naala Djookan (a family domestic violence support hub) and the other 2.0 FTE roles will work within NSCLC.
The people we are seeking will be proactive and capable law students who are committed to delivering high quality, client centred, supervised legal advice to clients, and working with them to understand their legal issues and rights. You will be able to build working relationships in a professional setting and be passionate about working with vulnerable groups from culturally and linguistically diverse groups, including people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
You will also have strong attention to detail and will assist clients to prepare and lodge documentation.
You will have a passion for community education and have sound interpersonal and communication skills.
The people we are seeking will be working towards a Bachelor of Laws degree (or recognised equivalent).
