SYN Media is a not-for-profit, youth-run media organisation based in Melbourne, broadcasting 24/7 on 90.7FM, DAB+ and online. We empower young people aged 12–25 to be creators — not just consumers — of media. Through radio, podcasts and digital platforms, SYN provides hands-on training and broadcast opportunities for hundreds of young volunteers each year, while delivering education programs and media workshops across Victoria. 

SYN is seeking to co-opt a new Board Member with experience in Human Resources, People & Culture, workplace wellbeing or organisational development.

This voluntary role will help support SYN’s governance and people practices as we continue to grow as a youth-led organisation. The successful candidate will provide strategic advice around staff wellbeing, HR processes, workplace culture, policies and organisational sustainability.

Time Commitment

Approximately 2–4 hours per month, including Board meetings and occasional consultation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide HR / People & Culture guidance and advice to the SYN Board and the General Manager.
• Support the organisation in strengthening workplace policies, onboarding and people practices.
• Contribute to discussions around staff wellbeing, organisational culture and governance.
• Champion SYN’s mission and values within your professional networks.

Who We’re Looking For

• Experience in Human Resources, People & Culture, workplace relations, organisational development or employee wellbeing.
• Understanding of governance and compliance within the not-for-profit or community sector (preferred but not essential).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to youth empowerment, diversity and inclusive workplaces.
• An appreciation for community media, contemporary music, youth engagement or creative industries is a welcome bonus, but not essential.
