The position

An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Duty Manager who wants to make a positive impact in our community.

Our programs in Special Works provide support to people in need from a variety of sectors – Justice, Homelessness, Mental Health, and Education. Samaritan House is a 13 bed, crisis accommodation program committed to providing shelter, support, and resources to men experiencing homelessness in our community. The program operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is located north of Canberra. Our mission is to empower those in need to regain independence and thrive in Society.

The Duty Manager will support the Program Coordinator with the day-to-day running of the team, providing timely and appropriate support and services to the individuals we assist. This includes a 24/7 crisis accommodation service and transitional support for individuals exiting the program. The successful applicant will create and deliver holistic, sustainable, and long-term case management plans for service users and Case Managers.

As a casual Duty Manager - Samaritan House you will work as part of a team of Duty Managers who work on revolving shifts and who are responsible for managing the operational functioning of Samaritan House which includes accommodation, client support and administration. This is a key role and is responsible for the oversight of the operation of Samaritan House whilst being the sole employee on duty.

The role aims to ensure the safety and security of our residents while providing assistance as required during their time with us. During your shift you will provide hospitality services and undertake a range of administrative duties, reporting to the Coordinator Samaritan House and working collaboratively with the Team Leader and Case Managers

Due to the 24-hour operation of the Service, shift times may vary, so flexibility is needed.

About you

To succeed and thrive in this role, you will be intrinsically motivated and driven by service excellence and have a strong commitment to working with vulnerable people with complex needs.

You will have well developed communications skills along with a proactive, collaborative mindset and a demonstrated resilience and capacity to adapt to change and sometimes challenging environments along with a high-level understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

A Certificate IV in Community Development/Sector or equivalent is required along with experience in a similar or related role. A Current First Aid Certificate, Driver Licence and Working with Vulnerable People Card is required.
